If you have questions about apprenticeships, we have answers.

Read some frequently asked questions about Powerlink's Apprentice program.

When will I know if I am a successful candidate?

Powerlink will aim to notify all of our successful candidates by late September, so that our school leavers have a full term to prepare for their start with us. You will be notified via phone and receive a letter of offer via email.

What happens after I accept my offer?

Once you accept your offer online we commence our on-boarding process. This includes requesting your bank, tax file and superannuation details. You will then be invited to an introduction to meet your leaders, the team, your fellow cohort and try on uniforms so you’re ready for your first day.

Will I be provided with a uniform and necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)?

Yes, all uniforms and PPE are provided.

Do I get any time taken off my apprenticeship, if I have completed a Certificate II in Electrical Trade?

Unfortunately, apprenticeships are specifically tailored to reflect work that is specialised to Powerlink. Whilst we value your previous experience, prior courses are not recognised.

Does Powerlink pay for travel and accommodation?

Powerlink covers all travel, accommodation and work-related expenses incurred when you are required to travel for work.

Will I be required to work away during the week and/or weekends?

As a Government Owned Corporation responsible for the operation and maintenance of Queensland’s high voltage transmission network, we have assets throughout Queensland that require maintenance and upgrades. We are also expanding our network to facilitate new customer connections.

This means that in addition to working locally, working away from home and performing a reasonable amount of overtime may be required as part of the role.

When working away from home, you will typically work a 9-day fortnight  and return home each weekend. Additionally, there may be alternative rosters that include weekend work; however, these are voluntary and compensated at the appropriate penalty rates. Should you be assigned to a crew that does not operate on a standard 9-day fortnight, any alternative rosters will be discussed with you.

We also work hard to accommodate requests to work locally for periods of time when circumstances require it.

Does Powerlink cover meal allowances when working away?

In accordance with our Enterprise Agreement, Powerlink offers several options for meal allowances while traveling for work. You can opt to receive a meal allowance, or Powerlink can pay for/reimburse you for your meals.

Do I need to buy any equipment or tool boxes?

Powerlink will provide you with all of the tools and equipment you require.

Does Powerlink supply me with a work laptop and phone?

Powerlink will supply you with a work laptop and work phone.
