At Powerlink, we are committed to empowering our employees to work in ways that allow them to perform at their best. With such a wide variety of inclusive benefits on offer, there's sure to be something for you.

Flexible working

At Powerlink, we believe that every employee deserves the opportunity to enjoy a work-life balance that enhances their overall wellbeing and performance. We understand that flexibility means different things to different people, and there's no one-size-fits-all approach. Given the variety of roles, work requirements, and business needs we have at Powerlink, we strive to provide a variety of flexible working options to accommodate individual preferences and circumstances.

Most roles at Powerlink are covered by our Working at Powerlink Union Collective Agreement, which includes a 9-day fortnight as the default work schedule. We also offer a range of flexible working options tailored to suit specific roles, including varied start and finish times, compressed work hours, part-time work, time-off-in-lieu, and job-sharing.

Additionally, we provide hybrid-working arrangements that allow employees to work from different locations, such as their home, the Powerlink head office, hot-desking, shared/co-working spaces, other Powerlink sites, or a combination of these. If you have specific needs or preferences, please ask us about the flexible working options available for your role.

Career development

At Powerlink, we offer a diverse range of development opportunities to help you unleash your potential and explore every possibility, because for us, it all starts with you.

Some of our learning and development opportunities include:

  • Individual professional development allowances, providing funding each year for your self-directed learning.
  • Support to attend external courses, training, industry forums, and conferences.
  • Access to leadership coaching and mentoring opportunities.
  • Participation in the Emerging Leaders Program and New Leaders Development Program in partnership with Melbourne Business School.
  • Ongoing capability and career conversations to explore your strengths, development opportunities, and career aspirations.

Leave options

We support employees with parental leave responsibilities by providing up to 14 weeks of paid parental, adoption, or surrogacy leave, with the option to extend this by an additional 4 weeks through our other flexible leave options under our enterprise agreements.  Superannuation contributions are made on both unpaid and paid parental leave up to the maximum of 52 weeks.

We also offer a diverse range of other leave including paid volunteer leave, paid study leave, compassionate leave, additional leave purchasing, and leave without pay for long-term study or career breaks.

Additionally paid special leave is available for Powerlink employees for such things as reproductive leave, menstruation leave, gender affirmation leave, domestic violence leave, and mental health leave.

Our leave entitlements also include cultural leave for sorry business/sad news and National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) leave.

Your health and wellbeing

We’re unwavering in our commitment to the health and wellbeing of our people.

Recognising that our employees are our most valuable asset, we take proactive measures to ensure that their physical and mental health is a top priority.

From providing access to wellness programs and initiatives to fostering a culture of psychological safety and support, Powerlink goes the extra mile to create an environment where employees can thrive.

This commitment extends beyond the workplace, demonstrating our dedication to the overall welfare of our team members, their families, and the Queensland communities we serve.

Giving back to your community

We want our people to feel connected to each other and the great work we do in delivering Queensland’s clean energy future.

Through our Pitch In program, Powerlink employees are able to take a day of volunteer leave each year to support a charity that’s meaningful to them.

Powerlink also delivers local community and environmental partnership programs to provide positive environmental outcomes, long-term community improvements and generate lasting mutually beneficial relationships.

We support a number of community engagement activities where our people are invited to participate. This includes activities like tree planting initiatives, environmental support projects, council greening partnerships and also volunteering with community organisations in providing services and support.

End of trip facilities

We offer free parking at Gladstone, Townsville and Virginia sites and access to electric charging stations at Virginia.

Our Virginia site offers on-site showers, lockers and bike facilities for your end of trip needs.

Virginia also offers two retreat/prayer rooms with Wudu facilities, dedicated parent rooms and quiet rooms for individual work.
