Queenslanders have an opportunity to tell the state’s electricity network operators about their needs and wants in this year’s Queensland Household Energy Survey (QHES).

Participants also have the chance to win a $100 gift card after completing the survey.

The long-running survey is a joint initiative of Powerlink Queensland, Energex and Ergon Energy Network to capture an insight into household energy usage.

Powerlink Chief Executive Paul Simshauser said understanding how Queenslanders are changing energy use behaviours and adopting new technology is critical to providing safe, cost effective and reliable electricity networks into the future.

“Between Powerlink, Ergon Energy Network and Energex, we all have a common purpose to serve Queenslanders,” he said.

“Last year, 56% of participants were concerned about their ability to pay their electricity bills – this was up 3% on the previous year.

“We are laser-focussed on delivering an affordable, sustainable and reliable power system and these valuable insights reinforce this.

“I would encourage all Queenslanders to get involved and have their say.”

Energy Queensland CEO Peter Scott encouraged more Queenslanders to have their say in shaping their energy future.

“We have more than 2.3 million connected customers across Queensland and the more we understand their energy needs and plans, the better we can support their electric life now and into the future,” he said.

“The Queensland Household Energy Survey is one of the many ways we seek feedback from customers, whose insights help us plan for future demand on the electricity distribution network and the integration of technology.

“While we are always looking at what is on the horizon, like a potential surge in electric vehicle numbers, we are acutely aware that energy affordability is the immediate priority at a time when the cost of living is a challenge for households and businesses alike.”

Participants in last year’s survey also showed increasing interest in technologies to manage consumption such as Home Energy Management Systems.

Other key insights included; 76% of participants are consciously trying to reduce their electricity usage, and 21% of participants with mains gas supply have considered converting to electricity only (up 7%).

The online Queensland Household Energy Survey is open now until April 14.
