The Next Generation Network Operations (NGNO) Portfolio is evolving the way we operate our network, improving Queensland's transmission network performance to better adapt to changes in the energy environment.

Project overview

The NGNO portfolio consists of three programs:

The Powerlink Energy Management System is the principal technology platform for the safe and efficient real-time operation of the transmission network. The replacement of the EMS is a critical step in meeting the challenges of the changing electricity environment

The AEMS Program will deliver:

  • a new Advanced Energy Management System with contemporary functionality to control and operate the network
  • new capabilities to forecast and predict network contingencies
  • enhanced end-to-end visibility of operational network information
  • reduction in manual data entry across systems.

The Enabling Software Program will focus on improved operational network performance including the introduction of new tools, process, and enhanced collaboration between teams to:

  • manage and investigate network incidents delivering an enterprise-wide view of current and emerging incidents
  • predict and manage planned network outages using real-time information
  • new essential interfaces between AEMS and SCADA master data
  • reduction of manual data entry across systems.

The Foundations Program will deliver the pre-requisite infrastructure and work environments:

  • provide collaborative, ergonomic, and safe workspaces that prioritize employee well-being
  • establish a dedicated Test Lab for evaluating new operational technologies and an AEMS Training Facility
  • enhance business continuity sites to improve network resilience and reduce operational risks.
