Overview
Powerlink has been engaged by RWE Renewables Australia (RWE) to connect their proposed Theodore Wind Farm project, located approximately 20km east of Theodore in Central Queensland, to the electricity grid.
The connection project will include building a new double circuit 275kV transmission line north of the proposed wind farm site, connecting to a future substation at Mt Benn near Banana (which forms part of the Banana Range Wind Farm Connection Project - currently in the planning and approvals phase).
The Theodore Wind Farm Project is a renewable energy development planned by RWE. For further information about the wind farm, visit the RWE website.
Powerlink's Role
Powerlink owns, develops, operates and maintains the high voltage electricity transmission network in Queensland. We also provide electricity transmission services, including connecting large electricity generators (such as wind and solar farms), to the transmission network.
Powerlink has been engaged by RWE to select and finalise the location for a new 275kV transmission line corridor and easement alignment, seek required approvals, and build and maintain the line if it is approved.
Status
In October 2024, Powerlink released a Draft Corridor Selection Report (CSR) that details the process and assessment used to identify a recommended corridor that has balanced the impacts overall from a social, environmental and economic perspective.
The report draws from, and builds upon previous assessments completed by RWE to investigate a transmission corridor.
Powerlink is now inviting feedback from landholders, Traditional Owner groups, the wider community and other stakeholders on the Draft CSR.
The Draft CSR and newsletter that summarises key project activities to date, and outlines the role of Powerlink is now playing in progressing this project can be found under the ‘resources’ tab on this page.

Landholders along the recommended corridor are also welcome to contact their Landholder Relations Advisor directly. Please refer to contact details on the right of this page.
Please note, feedback on the Draft CSR closes at 5pm Friday 29 November 2024.
Community information drop-in sessions
As part of our engagement process, Powerlink will be hosting three community information drop-in sessions to provide the opportunity for landholders and community members to meet with our project team, ask questions, provide feedback and share their insights.
Each session runs for a couple of hours so you can drop in at a time that is convenient for you. There is no formal presentation.

Background
Renewable Energy Roadmap
In April 2024, the Energy (Renewable Transformation and Jobs) Act 2024 (Energy Act) was passed in Queensland Parliament.
The Energy Act supports delivery of the government’s renewable energy targets and includes a framework to progress the declaration of Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) across the state.
REZs will help meet our future energy needs by connecting Queenslanders to renewable energy in a coordinated and cost-effective way.
The Callide region in Central Queensland has been identified as the first potential REZ location to be declared under the Energy Act.
